DUI law · State-specific guidance
One arrest. Two tracks. One clock may already be running.

Where did the arrest happen?
Not where you live — where you were stopped. The rules, the agency and the timing are set by that state. This goes straight to that state’s licence page; the Roadmap asks a few more questions and orders the next steps.
Clara will ask when it happened next.
A DUI arrest may involve a criminal court process and a separate driver’s-licence or administrative process. Where both apply they run at once, under different rules — and the licence clock can be the one that runs out first.

Online · Cited state law
This chat is not privileged. Keep the details of the stop for your lawyer — just the state, the county, and where things stand.
Clara
Hi, I'm Clara, the AI DUI guide on DUI.law. I can explain both sides of a DUI — the licence process and the court case — pull your state's published rules with citations, and connect you with a participating DUI defense lawyer for your county. One thing first: this chat isn't privileged, so please don't tell me what happened at the stop — just the state, the county, and where things stand. Which state did the arrest happen in?

The two tracks
Where both apply, they run at the same time, in different places, under different rules. Neither one waits for the other.
Often the shorter window
The licence track
Usually handled by a state agency rather than a court. Where a hearing can be requested, the window to ask is frequently short — and the rules, the agency and the timing are set by the state.
Runs alongside
The criminal track
Concerns the charge itself and proceeds through the court system. The timeline and the procedure vary by jurisdiction, and it is typically measured in months.
Start with your state
The deadline, the per-se limit, the lookback period and the penalty ranges are all state law, and they differ enough that a national answer is not an answer.
How this site handles legal figures
DUI.law publishes a legal figure only after it has been confirmed against the official source and dated. Every number that appears here carries its citation, its source link and the date it was checked, right beside it.
Where that has not happened yet, the page says so and shows nothing in its place. There are no estimates, and no ranges invented to fill a gap. An absent figure is a worse page and a better answer than a wrong one.
